When the cards you dealt you will need to see how much your cards total in terms of their values. Each card is worth its number in points with the face cards being worth ten points each. Getting close to twenty-one is fine as well but you should not go over that number. If you do go over twenty-one your hand will be declared a bust and you will lose. After you get two cards you can see if you want another card. For instance, if you have a king card and a three card you will have a score of thirteen. You can choose to get a hit at this point. This is where you will get another card. If the card in this example is an eight you will win with a blackjack. If it is nine or greater you will lose.
If your cards total twenty or lower you can choose to stand. This means that you do not want any more cards in a game.
Doubling down can be used as well. This is where after getting two cards you can double your bet and get one card for your hand. You will need to watch for the card that the dealer has that is up when getting this bet made.
Finally there is splitting. This works when you are dealt two cards of the same value. These cards can be split into two hands. An additional bet is required for this option. At this point you will have two separate hands to work with in a game.
Don't forget that while you can choose what to do the dealer cannot. The dealer must hit on all hands 16 and under. The dealer will have to stand at 17. Also, when you hit the dealer will hit depending on the value of the hand.
